The main purpose of Fundación Periodismo Siglo XXI is to investigate the political, economic, social and cultural incidents of the island of Puerto Rico, on and off the Island. This in order to produce multimedia content for the Bonita Radio digital platform.

A journalism that adjusts to the new forms of information consumption and that meets the highest ethical standards in terms of quality, depth and the conduct of journalists.
To promote information, research and news analysis as a fundamental accountability mechanism in a democratic society.

About our Founder

Carmen Enid Acevedo

She was born in 1964 and raised in San Juan in the third extension of the Country Club in Carolina. She defines herself as the latest 'baby boomer', to place her on the stage of a generation that experienced social change, adjusts and continues to evolve and work intensely for her personal and collective development.

Education

She was educated in public school and at the University of Puerto Rico in Río Piedras, where she obtained a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree in Journalism. Carmen Enid has 30 years of experience in the world of the media in Puerto Rico, written press and radio, which today are constituted in digital multimedia.

Investigations

Her journalistic work specialized in daily coverage of police events and the coverage of courtrooms on the national stage and that of the United States Court in Puerto Rico. In 2001, she discovered that the former Secretary of the Department of Education, Víctor Fajardo, was the leader of a scheme in the New Progressive Party (PNP) to solicit bribes from agency contractors, to subsidize the 1996 political campaign, which placed him as the first head of that agency in history convicted of corruption.

Awards

Carmen Enid has extensive experience as an investigative journalist that has earned her achievements such as the Malen Rojas Daporta Research Award, from the Overseas Press Club and the National Award from the Puerto Rico Journalists Association, between the 90’s and early 2000’s.

Board of Directors

Liliam Madera Saavedra – President

Creative Director with more than 20 years of experience and a proven track record in the Puerto Rico advertising industry. Strategic ability and strong leadership skills. High ethical standards. Inquisitive. "Multitasker". Perennial optimistic and passionate about work and life. Bachelor of Arts in Hispanic Studies from the University of Puerto Rico.

Mario Roche Morales – Vice President

Professor at the School of Communications of the Río Piedras Campus of the University of Puerto Rico; He is also a journalist and actor. He has been recognized by the Puerto Rico Journalists Association (ASPPRO) and the Overseas Press Club for his work on radio, television and in the press. He has to his credit academic essays on communication, culture and theater in specialized magazines and books. In 2014, Roche Morales published, together with Silvia Álvarez Curbelo, the book The essentials. Topics to understand Puerto Rico today (Callejón), a set of in-depth interviews with intellectuals in the country that was awarded by the PEN Club of Puerto Rico. He is currently finishing a book on the history of radio in the country.

Luis Dubón Arraiza – Secretary

Native of San Juan, Puerto Rico and a notary lawyer, admitted to the practice of the profession since January 1986. He has belonged to several Government Boards of the Puerto Rico Bar Association, reaching the position of First Vice President in the 2012-2014 biennium. He currently has his own law firm and serves as secretary of the Board of Directors of the Fundación Periodismo Siglo XXI.

Noeliz Suárez Archilla - Treasurer

Suarez Archilla is a lawyer specialized in the areas of corporations and contributions. She works in a global accounting firm, in which she serves as manager. She obtained her bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Puerto Rico and a Juris Doctor from the Inter-American University of PR.

Sara Benitez Delgado - Member

She is a feminist, sociologist, and retired professor at the University of Puerto Rico. She has a master's degree in Social Planning from the UPR and completed all the courses leading to a doctorate in Sociology from the State University of New York at Albany (SUNY-Albany. Benitez Delgado has been a leader in several projects in the areas of curriculum development, planning, development of proposals, self-study processes, prevention of violence against women, alliances to work on prevention issues with families and communities, as well as training projects for young people to develop citizenship skills. In 2008, she was deputy attorney for the Women of Puerto Rico Organization. From 2013-2017 she was director of the Office for the Integral Development of Women and the Department of Community Social Development of the Municipality of San Juan.

Our non-profit organization, Fundación Periodismo Siglo XXI, has a collaboration agreement with the main educational center in the country, which turns Bonita Radio, the institution's content writing tool, into a practice center for journalism students. This with the interest of being promoters of the generational change in the journalistic scene.
